Building healthy communities with our African partners through long-term commitments based on mutual respect, trust and innovation.
Who We Are
Salama Shield Foundation (SSF) is an international NGO based in Canada, Malawi and Uganda. We have been working in sub-Saharan Africa since 1992 on development challenges related to health and poverty alleviation. Over the past twenty years, our Canadian researchers and donors have partnered with thousands of Ugandans and Malawians to develop strategies for HIV/AIDS prevention, food and water security, financial security and education . The challenges are enormous, but with the help of many supporters, our innovative approach is changing lives.
Our Mission
To foster the development of sustainable, healthy communities in sub-Saharan Africa by:
- making long-term commitments to communities,
- embracing both indigenous and scientific knowledge and skills, and
- participating in community-driven initiatives through the development of partnerships based on mutual respect and trust.
Our Objectives
- To develop effective, practical, sustainable approaches to poverty alleviation and HIV/AIDS prevention in sub-Saharan Africa.
- To develop these approaches through mutually respectful partnerships between researchers, donors and African communities.
