Why we must invest in local food storage in sub-Saharan Africa

Post-harvest losses of staples such as grains and oilseeds are exceptionally high in sub-Saharan Africa as a result of old trucks bumping down pot-holed roads. According the Food and Agriculture Association of the UN, about 30 tonnes are lost annually. Upgrading storage facilities and transportation will help production, increase revenues for farmers and supplement food security.
